The Rolex Submariner Ref. 116659 “SABR” is a rare and opulent version of the iconic diver’s watch, designed for collectors who want a Submariner with full gem and gold embellishments. Introduced discreetly by Rolex, it retains all the mechanical pedigree of a professional dive watch, but is elevated by luxurious styling.
Its 40 mm case, constructed in solid 18K white gold, is adorned with diamonds on the lugs, crown guards, and end links, as well as a sapphire-diamond bezel that replaces the traditional ceramic insert. The bezel houses 36 baguette-cut sapphires with 12 diamonds marking major intervals, and a triangular diamond at the zero position.
The dial is completely diamond-paved, with sapphire hour markers and Chromalight-treated hands and lume to ensure readability. Notably, the usual depth rating text has been omitted for aesthetic reasons, since this piece is rarely used as a tool watch.
Inside, it houses the Rolex Calibre 3135, a workhorse automatic movement with a ~48-hour power reserve. As with typical Submariner models, it features the date at 3 o’clock magnified by the Cyclops lens.
